The Lord Will Provide
The Lord will provide!
What a profound truth - one I pray would run through my veins every day. I know this truth. I meditate on it. And yet, I still find myself uneasy, discontented, and quick to question it.
I am sure you can relate.
I don’t know if you’re on the mountain high, in the valley low, or somewhere in the middle mundane, but if you find yourself in a season of not knowing where God is leading you, and that uncertainty is stirring fear or anxiety, you are in very good company.
Anxiety is not a foreign experience to God. Throughout Scripture especially in the Psalms, we see these emotions expressed honestly and met with God’s nearness. Psalm 42:11 says:
“Why are you cast down, O my soul, and why are you in turmoil within me? Hope in God; for I shall again praise him, my salvation and my God.”
And anxiety is always met with God’s comfort:
“Cast your burden on the LORD, and he will sustain you; he will never permit the righteous to be moved.” Psalm 55:22
To be transparent, lately I have felt heavy doses of anxiety and fear. I’ve felt the reality of spiritual warfare, which Ephesians 6:12 speaks of. I’ve sought the Lord for wisdom over decisions that impact my career and my life. I’ve prayed, fasted, and meditated on God’s Word. And yet, even during those disciplines, I still experienced anxiety, fear, and even a panic attack, something I had never experienced before.
We can so quickly become paralyzed by questions like: What’s next? What if this doesn’t work? What happens if I fail? Am I really listening to where God is leading?
Amid this questioning, the Spirit led me to passages like Psalm 139, James 1, and specifically Matthew 6:25–34, where Jesus tells us plainly: “Do not be anxious.”
We all have that one friend who, when we’re experiencing heavy emotion, says things like, “Just don’t feel that way,” or “Don’t worry.” And honestly, sometimes I can be that friend who is quick to say, “Do not fear!” or “Don’t be sad!” as if it’s that simple.
And yet, Jesus really does say it simply: “Do not be anxious.”
Jesus doesn’t shame our worry but instead shrinks it by magnifying God. And because of who He is, it might really be that simple.
How can that be?
Jesus tells us to not be anxious because…
1. The Lord will provide
Jesus reminds us that life is more than food and more than clothing. He points us to the birds of the air—creatures that seem to live without worry or restraint. We often associate birds and flight with freedom, and God desires that same freedom for us in Him.
Birds don’t worry, stress, or strategize—yet they are fed.
If God sustains creatures who do not bear His image, how much more will He provide for His children?
“If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will the heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!” - Luke 11:13
Our Father already knows what we need. His provision is personal, flowing from His love for His children. And, He has already given us the greatest gift we could ever receive—eternal life through Christ Jesus.
2. The Lord cares for you
“Consider the lilies.”
This phrase is from a book that has been recommended to me repeatedly because of how beautifully it captures God’s sustaining peace and intentional care. God is attentive enough to clothe the flowers He created. If He delights in adorning the lilies, how much more does He care for you, His child?
He doesn’t merely clothe us with beauty. He has clothed us with righteousness by sending His Son to die for us.
“In this the love of God was made manifest among us, that God sent his only Son into the world, so that we might live through him.” - 1 John 4:9
Mediate on that truth and live it out in complete faith. This is how He cares for you!
3. The Lord has eternity planned
Jesus tells us to seek first the Kingdom. How often I need to remind myself to lift my eyes to things above!
Matthew 6:33 was part of my 2026 vision board, and I wrote this reflection alongside it:
“May I seek the Lord above all else. For You are my portion and my prize. The truth of these ‘things being added’ is so profound, because as I seek You, I realize You are my only desire.”
The enemy wants us fixated on the temporary—convincing us that our purpose, identity, and security are rooted in what can be shaken instead of what cannot be shaken!
But we are citizens of Heaven.
And that truth changes our anxiety today.
Our eternity is secure—not by our own doing, but by the love of God. When eternity is settled, temporary uncertainty loses its power. We have been given an unshakable Kingdom.
“Therefore let us be grateful for receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, and thus let us offer to God acceptable worship, with reverence and awe.” - Hebrews 12:28
May we be in so much reverence and awe for Jesus that we don’t have any room for anxiety or fear!
4. The Lord holds today in His hands
I love the honesty of Matthew 6:34 because it meets us exactly where we are. Each day truly does have enough trouble of its own. Why carry tomorrow’s burdens into today when today already requires grace?
Anxiety pulls tomorrow into the present. But Jesus reminds us that fresh grace is a daily gift—and His mercies are new every morning:
You don’t need strength for tomorrow, you don’t have tomorrow’s burdens yet. The Lord supplies us with every need today so let us fix our eyes on Him today, because He is all we need. He is our daily portion, our source of strength, and the very breath in our lungs.
“The steadfast love of the LORD never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.” - Lamentations 3:22-23
So maybe “do not be anxious” isn’t so complicated after all. When we sit in the truths that the Lord will provide, the Lord cares for us, the Lord has eternity planned, and the Lord holds today, all anxiety fades away, we live in His unfathomable peace, and are joyful in His never-ending guidance.
Even after being encouraged, you still may be wondering how this truth affects your specific situation. But the reality is this: God saving us through the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ affects every situation. You don’t need to know the answers or the plan, because the Lord is directing your steps which leads to eternity with Him.
The Lord will provide. He always has. And He always will.
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” - Philippians 4:6-7
