Thank you Jesus

I heard the song “Thank you Jesus” by Josh Baldwin and wanted to reflect how the lyrics moved my heart towards constant gratitude this week.

The apostle John gives us a stern warning in, 1 John 2:16,

“For all that is in the world—the desires of the flesh and the desires of the eyes and pride of life—is not from the Father but is from the world.”"

Our world will constantly urge us to chase more—more success, more comfort, more approval. As John put it in his first letter, “that is not from the Father.” And Josh Baldwin’s song “Thank You Jesus” offers us a quiet yet powerful pause, while drawing our eyes back to the cross and our hearts into a posture of deep gratitude. This worship song reminds us that sometimes the most profound prayer we can pray is simply, “Thank You, Jesus!”

The song opens with a tone of humble reflection which invites us to remember our lives before Christ. Josh Baldwin doesn't just sing about a general sense of thankfulness—he testifies to personal transformation in the Lord Jesus. Lines like “You set me free” and “You gave me life” are not just words in a song, they are powerful declarations that every believer has experienced.

What makes this song especially moving to me is how it centers on Jesus’ impeccable work on the cross. It’s not just a thank you for blessings or worldly successes—it’s gratitude for salvation, for mercy, for love, and for grace. “Thank You Jesus” reorients us to the greatest gift we’ve ever been given, Jesus Himself!

As we sing along, we’re reminded of the gospel truth that gratitude is the lifestyle for every believer. Worship doesn’t have to be loud or elaborate; sometimes it’s simply a quiet, steady stream of praise that flows from a heart that remembers what has been done for us.

So today, whether you’re on the mountain high or the valley low, may this song lead you to the foot of the cross. May it also be a reminder that even in our worst moments, we are never too far gone as Jesus was and is always faithful. And in our best days, He should be our source of joy.

There is power in a grateful heart! Gratitude is a spiritual weapon. When our heart is focused on what we have already been given as opposed to what’s missing, we are aligning our hearts to God’s will for our life and glorifying Him in contentment. When we say, “Thank You, Jesus,” we’re acknowledging that Jesus has already done enough. Josh Baldwin’s song invites us into this deeper posture of worship, one that lingers at the foot of the cross and simply says, “I remember. I receive. I’m thankful.” Whether you’re in a season of celebration or sorrow, choosing thankfulness will anchor your heart in God’s faithfulness. Let “Thank You Jesus” be your song not just on Sunday, but in the everyday moments where grace meets you repeatedly.

“Oh give thanks to the Lord, for he is good,
for his steadfast love endures forever!” — Psalm 107:1

“Thanks be to God for his inexpressible gift!” — 2 Corinthians 9:15

These verses remind us that our thankfulness is not based on circumstance, but on the eternal goodness of God and the gift of His Son, Jesus Christ.

Thank You, Jesus! For the cross. For grace. For never giving up on us.

Thank you Jesus by Josh Baldwin

Thank You, Jesus, for finding me

Like a good shepherd, Your mercy leads

Back to Your arms, where I'm meant to be

So I thank You, Jesus, for finding me

Thank You, Jesus, for saving me

You took my place on that cursed tree

Died for sinners, but rose as a king

So I thank You, Jesus, for saving me

Amen!

Oh, it's only because of all You've done

That I can be called a friend of God

Oh, beautiful Savior, what else can I do

But lift up my voice and say thank You

So thank You, Jesus, for loving me

Shame lost its hold when You set me free

Every fear has to bow at Your feet

So I thank You, Jesus, for loving me

Oh, it's only because of all You've done

That I can be called a friend of God

Oh, beautiful Savior, what else can I do

But lift up my voice and say thank You

Oh, so I enter the gate of the Lord with Thanksgiving

I enter the court of the Lord with praise

I enter the gate of the Lord with Thanksgiving

I enter the court of the Lord with praise (come on, sing it out)

I enter the gate of the Lord with Thanksgiving

I enter the court of the Lord with praise

I enter the gate of the Lord with Thanksgiving

I enter the court of the Lord with praise

Oh, it's only because of all You've done

That I can be called a friend of God

Oh, beautiful Savior, what else can I do

But lift up my voice and say thank You

Prayer

Father, thank you! Thank you for your plan, your sovereignty, your providential plans and, thank you for Jesus! Jesus you did it all for us, the perfect once and for all sacrifice, which provides us all we need. Thank you for going to the cross, enduring the humiliation, persevering through the beating, aligning to your Father’s will perfectly and giving us the Spirit. Lead us this week and beyond to focus on the things above. We love you because you first loved us. In Jesus name, Amen!
